This is an in progress of a Dodo bird that I have been working on I need to paint in the feathers and clarify the wings.

For those wondering why there is a beet on there here is the history behind Sint Niklaas and the Beet in Waasland, Belgium.

Emperor Charles V once visited the city of Sint Niklaas and obviously a crowd gathered to see the emperor. Among these was a small farmer holding a huge beet, which he wanted to hand to the emperor. The guards, however, prevented the farmer from reaching the emperor. The emperor, however, noticed that something was happening and asked the farmer what he had in his hands. The farmer answered that he had a giant fruit and that he wanted to give it to the emperor. The emperor was intrigued and let the farmer pass the guards. The emperor accepted the beet and awarded the farmer with a large purse.
Seeing the reward for a simple beet, a local horsebreeder imagined the award he would fetch if he gave the emperor a good horse. So he offered the emperor a beautiful horse. The emperor responded, saying that for a beautiful horse, he would donate one of his precious possessions, and handed the breeder the beet. Embarrassed the breeder had to accept the beet, which ever since has been the symbol of the Waasland and its fertile soil.

Here is an idea of what my second wine label might look like. The top one are the original colors I intended. Any thought on color and type would be greatly appreciated. Also, the place I am going to get these printed at limits me to 3 colors. So, there is going to be a re-design of my first label for the Cabernet.

Wine in Carboy

Corker, Bottles, Corks, Foil tops.

So, I have been in the process of making wine for a little while now. I have 5 gallons of Cabernet Sauvignon in secondary fermentation which will be ready to bottle by friday. It is so exciting I am already trying to think of what wine I will be making next and what kind of storage unit will be necessary because 5 gallons of wine is about 25, (750ml) wine bottles. I may need to build a wine rack for this hobby.

Also, this mean I will be designing a wine label. The color sketch for it is below. The wine as of now is named "Mon Poisson" which is french for "My Fish". This comes as a surprise to many people I am sure. If anyone has any thought or

critique of the color sketch I would love to hear it. (or suggestions for the wine name) The colors as a whole will be brighter they seem to be coming across as dull after making this a .jpeg from illustrator. The label will be on a green Bordeaux style wine bottle. The fish on the label are from left to right : a yellowfin tuna, spanish mackerel, and a common carp. Just in case that helps anyone. Thanks.

For those of you who have seen this painting i have begun storyboarding and brainstorming on a children's book based around this character. It will take a while to complete but keep your eyes open for progress. I really excited to start a long term project.

This is a flounder, I know, surprise it s a fish painting.

Oh look! more fish. This is a preview of a painting I am still working on that is going to be of all the fish within the Salmonidae family. I will post the completed painting of course when it is finished.

These grapes are starting to plump up.

The Bell peppers are getting off to a slow start but I think they are starting to come around.

I had so many cucumbers that I ended up pickling a about nine of them in jars, they will be ready to consume in about 2 weeks. There is also corn, potatoes, more cucumbers, garlic, carrots, and lettuce not pictured that should be ready to harvest in the near future.

I was able to pick some green beans, beets, potatoes(I ate them already) and onions out of my garden. There are some cucumbers, strawberries, still maturing. It is about time to start seedlings for the next crop.

Victory Garden

It's like a forest on my roof.

This is my planter box which contains: Bell peppers, Beets, One Carrot, Potatoes, Strawberries, Basil, Cucumbers, Green Beans, Onions, and Grapes. I am hoping for a bountiful harvest.

Grapes will take a bit longer to grow and ripen. But I am looking forward to the single bunch of grapes my vine has produced, hopefully I will get to them before the birds do.

These are two paintings I did very quickly I'd say about 4 hours each. The top one is a portrait study of my roommate and the second one is a turtle study. Both of these i started without a drawing underneath but just began painting with oil until they were finished!

Avalon,NJ

Beach Weekend!

My roomate and I and our respective girlfriends all went down to Avalon, NJ for the weekend. It was a celebration of the upcoming summer, my birthday/graduation and was the first time we all had been able to go together in a while. We stayed at Ben's beach house which is always more spacious and cleaner than what we are used to with a side effect of being relaxing and fun.

Saturday Morning Leanne and I went deep sea fishing but she had more luck than I did catching three black sea bass of regulation size (12.5 inches) I caught also caught a couple sea bass but they were something about the size of a small sardine. The people around us caught some sand sharks, skates, porgies, and also black sea bass. The captain and his crew of the Miss Avalon were awesome. The squawked and applauded to every single catch of the 40+ passengers and were more than helpful when removing sharks from fishing line. The cut the fish for those who wanted but of course we left ours whole ( So i could fillet them later).

My camera at the start of the trip had minimal battery so I turned it on with enough juice to catch a snapshot of Leanne giving a sadface then it retired to a dormant state. It was a fantastic trip and Leanne won second prize for the largest fish on the boat winning a return trip on the Miss Avalon. The first place prize belonged to a girl who was probably about 10 and she won theboat pool of $82. I had a great time even with a period of feeling a little seasick.

Afterwards everyone went to the beach, and later fishing off one of the bridges until the mosquitos chased us back to the beach house. Ben arrived late with Lauren and we all went to Atlantic City's Borgata casino. I was the only one here to make some money a modest $20.

The next day Hexter and Katie left early so he could get to work. So naturally we went fishing again and I collected a few specimen crabs including

, Maryland blue, spider, and fiddler crabs. Maybe I will paint them later. We grilled, packed, and cleaned and left around 9pm but not before visiting the jetty to say goodbye to Avalon because she has always been great to us.

Fishing Lures

This is a sketch for the painting is above it. I hope to complete a number of these as to have a series of them. I enjoyed this project very much and hope to always be finding new and interesting objects such as these. The background is three acrylic washes to simulate the texture of wood. The lure was painted with an acrylic underpainting and a oil overpainting to add texture and weight to the object.
